2010 HURRICANE PREPAREDNESS GUIDELINES

2010 IMPORTANT TELEPHONE NUMBERS

Park Rules and Regulations Basic Information such as:
Shutters, Trees and Bushes, Patio furniture, Lawn items etc..

Dear Residents:
Hurricane Season:  June1 - November 30
Be Prepared!

2010 Predictions:  11 - 16 Named Storms; 6 - 8 Hurricanes; 3 - 5 Major Hurricanes

Following is the basic information for your needs.  All other information is available at the office upon your request.

SPECIAL NEEDS SHELTER:
PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT IF YOUR MEDICAL CONDITION REQUIRES THE USE OF SPECIAL NEEDS SHELTER, YOU MUST FILL OUT APPLICATION FOR THE SHELTER SPACE AND SUBMIT ASAP!
Application/Registration is available in the office.  Just call 772-468-4968.

SPECIAL NEEDS SHELTER IS LIMITED AND PRIORITIZATION IS BASED ON NEED.
It requires registration and an application that must be completed and mailed in advance to:

YOUR HOME:
Manufactured homes are NEVER good shelters during a hurricane.  Manufactured homes can be severely damaged from the hurricane force winds and flying debris.
No matter the category of storm, whenever an evacuation order is given, all manufactured home residents must evacuate!  Please refer to the evacuation plan map and to the list of hurricane shelters.

PLANNING AHEAD IS CRUCIAL!
1.  Know that you might be told to leave and decide whre you will go if an evacuation is ordered.
2.  Try to stay with friends and relatives or check the hotels in the area.
3.  Have a contractor check the tie-downs or straps on the home.
BEFORE YOU LEAVE:
1.  Put breakables in boxes and put them on the floor.
2.  Remove mirrors and tape them.  Wrap mirrors and lamps in the blankets and place in the bathtub.
3.  Install hurricane shutters or precut plywood on all windows.
4.  Store awnings, folding furniture, trashcans and other loose outdoor objects.

TREES AND BUSHES ON YOUR PROPERTY:
Palm trees are  trimmed before each hurricane season by Tropical Isles Co-op's Tree contractor.
Palm trees are trimmed at the common areas and on each residents lot if the palm tree is
10 feet away from the road.  No palm trees are trimmed in the back of residents property.
All trees that are in the back of your house or on the side,are a responsibility of a residents!
These trees must be trimmed at this time of the year!
Tree Contractors hired by a resident must dispose of all trimmings and clippings and are not allowed to use Tropical Isles yard waste bins.

SHUTTERS
Residents who use temporary exterior shutters such as plywood (which must be painted to complement the exterior decor of the home) metal, plastic, or any other material may be used only during storm watches or warnings and must be removed within 10 days or as soon as possible after the storm. 
Please make arrangements for the installation of shutters!  Our maintenance department personnel will be busy installing shutters on the clubhouse and securing all common areas. 
They will not be able to help you.

PATIO FURNITURE AND OTHER ITEMS AROUND YOUR HOUSE
Patio furniture, barbeque equipment, bicycles, garbage cans and all other objects under the carport and around the house must be moved indoors and secured during a hurricane or emergent disaster.

LAWN ITEMS/DECORATIONS
All outdoor objects such as flags, lawn ornaments, flowerpots, light lawn furniture, umbrellas and all such items must be moved indoors for the protection of your own home as well as your neighbors.

CLUBHOUSE/RECREATION AREAS
The Clubhouse will be shuttered in the event of threatenig weather (tropical storm or hurricane watches or warnings) at the sole discretion of the Board of Directors and the Management.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL THE CLUBHOUSE BE AVAILABLE AS A "HURRICANE SHELTER" OR "STORM SHELTER".

SWIMMING POOL/HOT TUB
Swimming pool and the hot tub will be closed during the hurricane warnings and after the hurricane.  Facility will reopen after it is determined safe for use.

STORAGE SPACES
All stored items, including storage boxes, must be tied down or removed during a hurricane warnings. Co-op is not responsible for any damages to the vehicles stored at the storage area.

Some more information:
Pull electrical plugs if there is a danger of flooding
If you remain in your home, avoid windows and doors.
If you evacuate, do so early and in daylight hours.  Try to avoid major highways.
Do not go outside until advisories are issued that the storm has passed.  Do not be fooled by the temporary calm!!
Identify a window or door away from the direction of the wind to use as an emergency exit if needed.
Do not use tap water for drinking until you know it is safe.  Boil water before drinking.
If power is lost, turn circuit breakers off until power is restored.
Notify relatives of your wherebouts but limit use of telephones to essential communications.
